The Client - Perfect Monitoring Services

Perfect Monitoring Services is a pioneer in the field of Media Reporting. The organization is run by media veterans and is focused on capture and delivery of real-time television (and radio) broadcast data.

Business Challenge - Serving Real-Time Telecast Data for Online Analysis

Perfect Monitoring had made extensive investments in systems and infrastructure to capture broadcast data from various television and radio channels. Tailor-made Reports specific to their clients were then generated on the captured data and periodically shipped to the clients as printouts and excel sheets.

In this situation, real-time data could not be delivered to end users in spite of being able to capture the data.

In addition to delivering reports online, Perfect Monitoring also wanted to automate and simplify the process of report purchase, invoicing and billing.

Our Solution - Web-based Reporting with Crystal Enterprise and J2EE

Perfect Monitoring Services approached Auriga Logic for their expertise in the area of web application development and reporting.

First, Auriga Logic studied Perfect's existing infrastructure and in-house IT skills. Perfect's IT team were already using and were comfortable with Crystal Reports for report generation. The solution would have to leverage this in-house expertise.

After jointly evaluating several alternatives for online report distribution, Auriga Logic suggested Crystal Enterprise (CE). The only concern was that there weren't enough reference implementation of Crystal Enterprise to use as a model. Also, Crystal Enterprise (at the time) supported only Microsoft technologies, where as the rest of the reporting portal would be developed using J2EE technologies.

To overcome these challenges, Auriga Logic spent a month researching CE. Auriga Logic custom-built a Java interface (using Java Native Interface technology) to access the CE API so that it could be integrated into the rest of the portal.

The Final Result

The reporting portal was developed and deployed in 5 months. Perfect's clients can now logon to the portal to view their reports at any time. In addition to viewing reports, due to the advanced functionality provided by Crystal Enterprise, clients can also perform analysis on their data using the analytics features of CE.
